Dragon Quest Heroes II is a hack-and-slash game developed by Omega ForceDragon Quest Heroes II published by Square Enix for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows. The game which is a sequel to Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below was released Japan in May 2016. However, released worldwide in April 2017.

Dragon Quest Heroes II Plot

The game plays out like a story. Where in a beautiful and peaceful land of seven kingdoms. Then war suddenly breaks out as if influenced by an ancient prophecy. Heroes from each of the kingdoms must unite to bring peace back to their war-torn land.

Dragon Quest Heroes II Gameplay

Dragon Quest Heroes II mixes the hack-and-slash combat of Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors series of video games with the characters, monsters, universe, and lore from Square Enix‘s Dragon Quest series. Additionally, the game is heavier on the RPG elements than most of Omega Force’s other titles. Meanwhile, players can explore the land and move from one town to the next, while also initiating dungeon-like battle stages. Furthermore, treasure boxes and ingredients can be found by players while exploring. Weather also plays a factor and rain will result in a curse ailment being inflicted on the players during a battle.

While players are able to dash to wherever they please. However, some areas of the map will be inaccessible until the player has proceeded with the main story. Also, fast travel to previously visited areas of the map can be used through unlocking “Invitation Stones”  while playing the main story.

Additionally, two-player co-op is now available for the main story by selecting the “Assist” option in the main battle menu. Furthermore, up to four players can play together for multiplayer missions. Players can work together to find more map pieces or defeat difficult bosses. Also, players can work together to complete the new “Time Labyrinth”, though by choice. However,  It is unlocked by finding labyrinth map pieces scattered throughout the main story.

Although online chat is not available, players can select common stock phrases to communicate. Ressurection of fallen party members can be done either by “Leaves of the World Tree” or raise their alive companions’ health and Tension by cheering for them.
