Huawei Matebook X Pro Laptop Review, Specs and Price

Huawei Matebook X Pro Laptop. We could not have seen this coming. Chinese tech giant Huawei is not known for making laptops but it may have created the new “best laptop” of 2018 with its MateBook X Pro. I’d think Huawei has managed to deliver the most luxurious, performant and long-lasting laptop we’ve seen since the Dell XPS 13. And while its name and design beg for comparisons to Apple’s MacBook Pro, the MateBook X Pro’s keyboard is far more comfortable.

Huawei Matebook X Pro Laptop Review, Specs and Price

The Huawei Matebook X Pro Laptop looks like a carbon copy of the Apple’s MacBook Pro, however, adds in features that make it better for pros on the go. With a battery that lasts all day, that would be enough to send you to check it out in a store near you.

Huawei Matebook X Pro Design

The MateBook X Pro’s design keeps the premium feel of its predecessor alive which is a good thing. Not only is it a slim, silver wedge, it’s easy to open its lid with a single hand, a hallmark of Apple’s notebooks. The MateBook X Pro also has a fingerprint reader which it uses for Windows Hello sign-in. The fingerprint reader is sneakily located in its power button and speedily logs you in.

When closed, the MateBook X Pro is just 4.9mm (0.19 inches) at its thinnest end, and 14.6mm (0.57 inches) at its thickest. It weighs just 1.33kg (2.93 pounds), which as Huawei is keen to point out, is lighter than the MacBook Air’s 1.35kg. Clearly, the MateBook X Pro is a slim and light-enough laptop to comfortably carry around. Additionally, the MateBook X Pro comes in two colors and both look gorgeous up close. Space Gray and Mystic Silver are the available colors.

Noticeably, Huawei got the camera removed from the front panel. The camera hasn’t gone away for good. It resides between the F6 and F7 keys. Pop it, and it comes to life to serve your video chat needs. Hide it away when you’re done with it. Cool right?

How Much Does The Huawei Matebook X Pro Cost

For reasons unknown, Huawei is not yet ready to discuss pricing of its newest laptop in any other currency than Euros. The Huawei MateBook X Pro is said to cost €1,499 with a Core i5, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, €1,699 for the same processor and RAM but 512GB of storage, or €1,899 with a Core i7, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage – as tested. It is believed that if the machine ever arrives in the US, its price will likely be much lower thanks to the differences in sales tax compared to Europe.
